The Healing House is a supportive space where children and families experiencing homelessness can recover after surgery or medical treatment. Located on the near west side of Madison, just northwest of the UW campus, Healing House provides recuperative care delivered by trained staff and volunteers. Guests receive three nutritious meals a day, access to child care support, and case management services designed to help break the cycle of homelessness.

Requirements:

  • At least 18 years or older
  • Commit to at least two four-hour shifts a month, for at least six months

Volunteer Role:

  • Provide relief for parents and supervision for children (all in the presence of healing house staff)
  • Assist in preparing and serving meals
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of rooms and common areas
  • Assist staff as needed to ensure the well-being of guests
