The students are finishing the last week of classwork, the rest of their time will be spent taking exams and having plenty of review for those exams. On Mindful Monday, we dug deep with each student to see what each of them wants to become better at for themselves. Students responded with making more time for self care instead of putting everyone else’s needs before their own and taking the steps to become a better test taker-whether that means needing to take more time, or to be in a space away from others to better concentrate. And most importantly is speaking up for yourself: self advocacy is a never ending journey for us all and you can always improve on that. These were all amazing goals for our students to make for themselves.
In the kitchen the students helped to decorate over 100lbs of tea cookies which almost literally melt in your mouth. You can check them out here! Also, if you haven’t placed your orders for the Gingerbread Houses, last day to place will be Monday, December 20 for pickup on the 22nd!
We will be starting our next class on January 3rd, which we are very excited about. It will be the first full curriculum in quite awhile, but we have a great group of motivated individuals ready to take on the challenge.
With the Holidays coming up Just Bakery will be closed from December 23 until January 3rd. Ordering will be paused until the beginning of the year. Staff and students have worked very hard, especially over the last couple months, so they need some time to relax and recharge!

The mission of JustDane has always been to inspire hope and create change at the individual level and community level. JustDane would not be where it is today without the wonderful people who participate in, and give life to, its programs. Tyrees Scott is one of these people. He is the embodiment of hope, change, and perseverance. Born in Chicago and raised in Madison, Wisconsin, Tyrees dealt with struggles while growing up, and as a young man he was incarcerated. Despite tribulations after his release from prison, Tyrees decided it was time to change his life around. He made a promise to himself that he would not end up incarcerated again, and he has lived up to exactly that.
