Welcome JB 66!!
Natasha and Cedric will be our journalists this round, so here is Natasha to tell you about the first week, then we will introduce you to the students!
“Hello and welcome to our first blog for Just Bakery class 66! This week we had orientation, team building activities, and yummy treats from the bakery. A lot of acronums and fun sayings like “Bloop Bloop”! Then there was math, yes math, because baking is science. In this day and age, because we have our handy dandy phones and calculators, we forgot how to “math” like in the olden days. LOL. One of the biggest themes to come out this week was…Personal Hygiene! Yes, wash your hands-without going into too much detail, you should wash your hands a LOT! So much so, we wrote a song! Sing to the tune of Row Row Row Your Boat:
Wash wash wash your hands
Often is the dream
Merrily Merrily Merrily Merrily
Our food must be clean! 😊”
Now let’s meet our class-First up, blog author Natasha!
“I am 60-61 in September 😊My greatest influence have been a few actually-my fourth grade teacher (we made Winnie the Poohs!), my freshman algebra teacher (he really motivated me to love math!). My last manager-she is the most by the book, but fair and diplomatic. Integrity =Big K.
I’m at Just Bakery because of the great opportunity and my spirit said “This is it!”. I LOVE to bake and cook.
For the future, I would love to have a cupcake shop or truck-I used to have Starfish Sweets business.
I want to be clear, happy, focused, and help others going through what I have because I have a ton of empathy.”
Leonard:
“Hi, I’m Leonard from California, but I’ve been living in Madison for 23 years. I’m a very loving, loyal husband, father, and friend. I came to JB to get a jumpstart on my culinary career.”
David:
“My name is Dave. I’m interested in baking because food is a huge component in storytelling. Storytelling is a huge part of Native American culture. I’ve been blessed to be around both the positive and negative aspects of this culture. Culture and spirituality help me as I re-acclimate to the outside world.”
Daniel:
“I am from Illinois but currently live in Madison. What motivated me to come to Just Bakery is to use this class as a resource to find a job and housing, as well as learning how to bake and cook. My struggles are finding a job and housing right now. I see myself in accouting in the future. I plan on going back to college in January. I have a friend who can get me a job with his old job. I like baseball, bowling, and video games.”
